I'm back

Hello everyone.  I have been in Europe!!  Because of home security I decided to simply stop blogging and not tell the world that I wasn't home.  But now I am home and very lucky to be here.  We ( me, my husband, my oldest daughter and her partner) flew home from Heathrow last Wednesday.....6 hours before they closed the airport due to the Iceland volcano.  Oh my goodness I am so glad that we got home.

When we left Heathrow we had no idea that the airport would soon be closed.  A couple missed getting on the flight.  Their luggage was on the plane and it had to be removed before we could take off.  I wonder if they are still stuck in London.   On the flight home me, my husband and daughter all ate the same meal on the air plane.  We all got food poisioning and were extremely sick for several days.   Now I have bronchitis BUT I think all of those people stuck in Europe would gladly have traded places with me, food poisioning and all.

My daughter had a new video camera and she recorded herself at Stone Henge.  This is a photo of herself taken from a frame in the video.  We always have a stuffed animal as a mascot on our trips and this is Little Feather.  It was cold and windy at Stone Henge.  We had a private tour and were allowed to walk right up to the stones.

We visited Paris France, Edinburgh Scotland, Bath, York and London England.  My daughter put a video on YouTube of my husband driving for the first time on the left side of the road.  I'll put a link to it when I find out what it is.

I will be posting more photos (of course) and showing some of the fabrics I brought back with me.
Until next time,

Quilts and Onions

Hello everyone,
This week I finished the 3 blocks for the March Star Crazy block-of-the-month quilt.
These are the blocks I have finished so far, January thru March.  I don't like the 2 stars on the right.  There is not enough contrast so I will probably remake these in different colors.

I have found the perfect spot to cut fabric....in my kitchen!!  I have a large bar area that is the perfect height for cutting fabric.  My cutting mat fits beside the stove and there is plenty of room to spread out my fabric.  The rug helps to cushion my feet so I am not standing on the hard tile floor for hours.

This week I bought 3 bunches of Texas 1015 onions.  I usually buy Texas Supersweet.  The garden center told me that 1015 and Supersweet are the same so I am trusting them.  My 2 granddaughters are on spring break next week.  They are going to spend the week with me and have agreed to help me plant onions.  Let's see....3 bunches of onions, 50 onions per bunch and there are 3 of us.  I predict the kids (age 10 and 4) might get one bunch planted before they get bored.  Hey, that's okay,  I will take any help I can get!

Have a good weekend.  Until next time,

Spring has Sprung

I can feel that spring fever in my bones, my daffodils have started blooming!!
My mini daffodils are the only bulbs that have completely opened.

These little blooms are only 1 inch across, about 4 inches tall.  I cut these for my daughter, she is a daffy lover.

This week I started a new quilt top.  I am using a pattern from Kaffe Fassett's Kaleidoscope of Quilts called Morning Garden Quilt.  This fabric really makes me have spring fever.

My granddaughter turned 10 yesterday.  She had her first slumber party Friday night then yesterday she got her ears pierced.  In our family you must be 10 before you get your ears pierced.  That way you can take care of them.  It is a big deal to us and we make a day of it.   There were 8 of us that went to the 23rd street Body Piercing shop to support her.  When my girls were young they used a piercing gun.  Yesterday they used a large needle and did not numb her ears.  She did great!!

I hope to get my onions planted this week.  I am also looking for tomato plants to purchase but haven't found any yet.  I set my tomatos out in March in Wall-O-Waters.  These protect the tomatos from the cold weather and give me about a 1 month head start on the tomato season.  If I plant tomatos this week I will blog about it.
Until next time,

Keeping Busy

Life has been pretty busy lately for a retired woman.  I am use to living life at a very slow pace but this past week has been anything but that.

I started the week by celebrating my Mothers birthday.  She was born on Valentines Day.  We all gathered at her house to celebrate.  She turned 75 and is "as healthy as a horse".  I found this cake at Sam's and it was beautiful.

I play cards once a month with friends of my Mothers.  I consider them my friends now. Tuesday I hosted the card party this month.  We play 31.  The object is to get as close to the 31 count as possible.

On Wednesday I volunteered to help setup for the annual Friends of the OKC Metropolitian Library booksale.  This year we had 5000 boxes of books which translates to about a ba-gillion books.  They sell the books really cheap.  $1 for hard backs and 50 cents for papers backs.  There is also a collectors choice section where a book can be as much as $5 (oh my!).  The sale raises around $250,000 that is put back into the library system.

On Thursdays I bowl on a league with my Mother.  This week we had to bowl 6 games to make-up for a day we missed because of snow.  After bowling I went to the booksale then I went again on Friday.  So far I have bought 2 cookbooks, 2 books on French, 4 gardening, 4 quilting, 2 by Dan Brown, 20 by Janet Evanovich, 1 photography, 1 decorating, 7 by Julie Garwood and 15 quilt magazines.  AND I plan to go again on Sunday when the books are really cheap (half price).

Today Mother took me to see the Broadway show Wizard of Oz.  It was one of the best musicals that we have seen.
So, I have not been quilting nor have I been gardening.  This week looks like life will be back to my routine. I hope to be quilting by Wednesday.
Until next time,
Kclily

Mosaic Monday - Not Talking Snow

Welcome to Mosaic Monday.  Mary at Little Red House hosts this event.  Please be sure to visit her blog to see what other mosaics were created this week.

I am tired of winter and all this snow.  I would bet that you feel the same way.  So I dug through my pictures and found a few that I took last summer at the OKC Zoo.  I have a season pass to the zoo and I buy every member of my immediate family at pass.  When the weather cooperates we meet at the zoo and walk.

The Aquarium is one of my favorite buildings to visit.  I do visit the Aquarium during the winter because it is soooooo warm inside.

To get our walk in we go visit the Giraffes and the Gerenuk.  I have to visit the reptile house and look at all of the frogs.  And isn't this porcupine just precious?
Here's to Spring!!  Until next time,

More Kaleidoscope Fun

Today I didn't get any quilting done so I can't show that.  There is snow on the ground and I am tired of posting about that. Soooo, what is more fun than a few Kaleidoscopes.  I took pictures through my glass kaleidoscope and created these from those pictures.

Until next time,
