Today I took the opportunity to snap a few pictures of the blooms in the garden before it freezes.

The last of the Knockout Roses

Summer Phlox....Still blooming.  Old Man Winter is blowing into Oklahoma.

Tomorrow I have another chemotherapy treatment.  Here I am 3 weeks ago getting chemo treatment #2.  I always get cold during a treatment so I am glad I have this prayer quilt to keep me warm.  Thank you again Karring Quilters of Emmaus Baptist Church for this quilt.  I use it all of the time.

I will be "down" for about 3 days.  I plan to stay in bed, watch movies and read until I feel better.  Next week is Thanksgiving and we always celebrate at my house.  This year my Mom, daughers and granddaughters are coming the day before to help me cook and clean.  I have such a great family.  I couldn't do it without them this year.

Hair Cut and Blooms

Yesterday I got my hair cut and my wig styled.  I will show the wig later when I need to wear it but for now this is my new do.

My husband took this picture.  My hair is very curly so I will let the back do it's own thing.  This hair do will be fine for the next 3 weeks.

First day after chemo was a little rough.  Woke up at 4am with a headache and nauseated.  But I took my meds and felt good by 10am.  I had to go back to the hospital for a shot that would help build up my blood count.  They said it might cause flu like symptoms and told me to take Benedryl.  I did and so far so good, no symptoms.

Day 2 after chemo has been great.  I have felt fine today.

I have felt good enough to trim shrubs and snap a few pictures of the blooms in my yard.

I love this color combination of the yellow melampodium and purple gomphrena.

Empty Nest Gardens before a freeze

The weatherman has forecast an artic freeze for Thursday so I grabbed the camera and took a few pictures before the Empty Nest blooms are gone.

I love having blooming roses in November.

The leaves on the oak trees were so beautiful this year, the most color I can ever remember.

In the greenhouse the Bird of Paradise is still blooming.

 The greenhouse is absolutely jammed packed with plants.  I always try to save everything from the killing frost.  After Thanksgiving I will have to take cuttings of some of the plants and try to downsize a little so I can get inside the greenhouse to work....lol. 

I hope you have a great Thanksgiving.  I will be hosting 11 at my house.  Let us all be thankful for the many blessings in our lives.

Baseball,Bird of Paradise and Carrion

First I have to say Yipppppeeeee   WooooooHooooooo  my Texas Rangers won the American League Championship and for the first time in their history they are playing in the World Series.  

I took this picture off the Texas Ranger website and I would give credit to the creator if I knew who it was. 

 We have our World Series tickets.  We will be going to game 3 next Saturday October 30.  Look for me on TV.  I will be the one dressed in red....hahaha...lol.  

It's that time of year.  The Bird of Paradise is blooming again.  Later this week I will be taking it into the greenhouse.

This year my African carrion (Stapelia Grandiflora) has 8 blooms at one time!!!  This is another first.

May Garden

It has been rainy here for the past week.  Before the rains started I had snapped a few pictures of my flowers.  Enjoy a short walk through the garden.

The pink rose on the left is Knockout 'Radcon' and the red rose is Tess of the D'Uerbvilles.  The red rose has special meaning.  My grandmothers name was Rose.  When she died I sent this rose bush to her funeral knowing that I would bring it home and plant it in my garden.  Red was her favorite color.  I always think of  her when it is bloom knowing she would be thrilled that she still lives on in my garden.

The Shasta Daisys have reseeded everywhere but I don't care because they are so cheerful.  My favorite movie is "You've Got Mail".  In the movie Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) loves daisys because they brighten her day.  I have to say I love them also. 

Another favorite of mine are Columbines.  These are McKanas Giants that I grew from seed several years ago.  They continue to reseed each year. 

This is a piece of the front yard.  When I took this picture there wasn't anything blooming but now I have Coreopsis that have just opened.  Pictures of those will follow when the weather cooperates.

Mosaic Monday - Blooming in the Garden

I can not believe that I still have roses blooming in my garden.

It is so nice to have fresh cut roses in the house at this time of year.

We have had some gorgeous sunsets this week.  My husband usually says "Grab the camera, the sunset won't last long".  I also included mums, periwinkles, ruella and mini roses that are blooming.

Still Busy in the Yard

This week I have been busy moving my tropical plants into the greenhouse.  It continues to get down into the low 40's at night and even though the plants looked good outside I didn't want to take the chance that they might get damaged. 

My little green house cannot hold another plant.  It is bursting at the seams.

I have a 9'x12' greenhouse that my husband built about 10 years ago.  It has gas heat and running water and works very well to over winter the tropicals.  I plan to build a larger greenhouse next fall and use this one for starting seedlings. 

The leaves have started changing colors.  These are the oaks in the front yard.

Aren't the red leaves on this tree just beautiful?  This is my neighbors tree and I have no idea what kind of tree it is.

And look what is blooming again...my bird of paradise!  This plant is still sitting outside and is a very happy camper.  Somehow I will have to squeeze it into the greenhouse soon.
